2024 Bird in Hand Nero d'Avola

One of the first producers in Australia to make this variety back in 2011, our 2024 Nero d’Avola has evolved to an elegant contemporary style through meticulous fruit selection and modern winemaking techniques that puts purity of fruit at the forefront. 

Grapes were harvested in the early morning from a typically low yielding single vineyard in Kersbrook, northern Adelaide Hills. They were picked at a slightly lower ripeness, giving brighter acidity and fresher, more vibrant flavours to the resulting wine. One batch was destemmed only into a small open stainless steel fermenter keeping 100% percent as whole berries. This batch was fermented for 12 days on skins, with a gentle daily pump over regime. The other batch was destemmed into small open fermenters.

In the glass, this wine showcases a deep ruby hue, hinting at the richness within. The clarity is excellent, with a slight viscosity that suggests a full-bodied texture. On the nose, the wine opens with intense aromas of dark fruits, predominantly black cherry and plum, which are complemented by subtle notes of raspberry. 

The palate delivers a harmonious balance of rich fruit flavours and refreshing acidity.  Enjoy whilst young or savour this wine at its apex over the next 4-5 years.
