2016 Bird in Hand Nero D'Avola

Originating from the island of Sicily, the nero d’avola grape thrives in warm climates, and the grapes for this wine were sourced from a Northern pocket of the Adelaide Hills.
Grapes were partially crushed into a small open fermenter, whilst a proportion of the berries were left whole for additional character. The grapes spent ten days on skins to enable the ideal colour, flavour and tannin extraction, before being pressed off and transferred to French oak barrels (15% new) for 16 months.
Medium density in appearance, the 2016 Nero d’Avola shows vibrant red hues. Intense and richly aromatic in aroma, the wine has notes of red cherry, redcurrant, rosewater and violet on the nose.
With wonderful fruit weight and intensity, on the palate, this full-bodied red wine has a spicy tannin profile and elegant structure leading to long, lingering flavours on the finish.
This full-bodied red is a great partner for red meat, or duck breast with a mandarin glaze.
