Special Edition: Sydney Swans 150th Anniversary 2016 Nest Egg Cabernet Sauvignon

The Sydney Swans are commemorating their 150th anniversary with a Special Edition case (6 bottles) of Bird in Hand's 2016 Nest Egg Cabernet Sauvignon. Limited to just 150 cases, each bottle is individually numbered and represents a pivotal moment in the Swans' legacy.

Inside each case are six bottles each representing the following milestones:

1874: Commemorates the founding of the South Melbourne Football Club.

1982: Honours the transition from South Melbourne to the Sydney Swans, a pivotal moment in the club's history.

2005: Celebrates the Sydney Swans unforgettable 2005 Grand Final victory, ending a 72-year premiership drought.

2012: Marks the club's triumphant 2012 Grand Final win.

2022: Celebrates the historic first Sydney Swans AFLW game, ushering in a new era for the club.

2024: Celebrates the 150th anniversary of the club, honouring a century and a half of passion, resilience, and triumph.

This Special Edition case is a timeless tribute to one of the AFL's most iconic clubs, and once sold out, will not be available again. 

A very dry Spring and warm Summer led to the earliest start to vintage on record. Cabernet Sauvignon parcels were harvested from premium sites and processed with up to 50% whole berries.

Such was the power and concentration of the 2016 Nest Egg Cabernet, the barrels were matured for an incredible 28 months to ensure tannins were fully integrated and to add further complexity to the wine. The final blend included 50% New French Oak barriques, with the remaining 50% being first and second fill French Oak. Only the tightest grained, premium oak selected especially for Cabernet, is used for Nest Egg wines.

All Cabernet barrels were then individually tasted with elite barrels selected for the Nest Egg range based on intensity of flavour, concentration, and finesse. Made in limited quantities, this vintage is comprised of only 11 barrels.

The resulting wine is deep purple with garnet hues. Powerful yet distinctly cool climate, the pallet mirrors the nose with flavours of blackberries, violets, cedar and dried herbs. Richly textured with a dense, round mid palate and long velvet tannins, the wine has developed and evolved beautifully over time with cellar potential of over 15 years.
